Sage Geosystems Inc. (Sage), a leader in Pressure Geothermal technology, has announced its selection by the U.S. Air Force Office of Energy Assurance and the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) to investigate how America’s vast geothermal energy resources can be harnessed to enhance national security and energy independence
After securing “Awardable” status for three different proposals, Sage is now positioned to pursue the development of a large-scale geothermal power plant both within the U.S. and internationally. This initiative aims to provide military bases with stable and affordable electricity, ensuring power availability even in the event of grid failures.
Sage was chosen through the CDAO’s cutting-edge Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace, a platform designed to streamline the acquisition and deployment of critical technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and resilient energy solutions. Every “awardable” solution within Tradewinds has undergone rigorous evaluation using complex scoring metrics and competitive selection procedures. This framework enables government and military entities to rapidly engage pre-approved vendors and expedite contracting processes.
Three of Sage’s proposals were selected through Tradewinds:
- A standalone submission from Sage Geosystems
- A joint effort with an independent energy and carbon management firm
- A collaboration with a leading energy equipment manufacturer and an energy service provider
These three proposals were among eleven total applications that successfully achieved “awardable” status.
“The U.S. Air Force leveraged the Tradewinds solicitation process to quickly collaborate with innovative American companies to build resilient, next-generation geothermal technologies at our bases, using private capital instead of taxpayer dollars,” said Mr. Kirk Philips, Director, Air Force Office of Energy Assurance.
“Sage is incredibly excited to have been granted awardable status by the DoD as this allows us priority selection for future contracts,” said Cindy Taff, CEO of Sage. “We are excited to play a role in helping unleash America’s energy dominance with secure, plentiful, geothermal energy.”
Sage has produced multiple videos—including two in collaboration with three different partner organizations—that are accessible exclusively to government users via the Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace. These videos showcase real-world applications where Sage’s geothermal power generation and energy storage solutions could be implemented. Among a highly competitive pool of applicants, Sage Geosystems stood out for its innovative approach, scalability, and potential to enhance DoD operations.
