GTS NevadaIn a major step forward for clean energy innovation, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has officially approved a pioneering partnership between Google and NV Energy.

This collaboration, operating under a newly developed Clean Transition Tariff (CTT), represents a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at delivering scalable, carbon-free power solutions for large-scale energy users.

The Clean Transition Tariff establishes a novel utility rate structure that enables utilities and significant electricity consumers to jointly invest in dependable clean energy resources. Designed to be adaptable, the CTT offers a model that can be replicated across other U.S. electricity markets, with similar discussions already gaining traction in various states.

Originally announced in 2023, this newly approved agreement will introduce 115 megawatts of enhanced geothermal power to Nevada’s grid. Supplied by Fervo Energy and delivered through NV Energy, the continuous, around-the-clock clean energy will directly support Google’s data centers and cloud infrastructure in the state. This development also marks significant progress toward Google’s ambitious goal of operating entirely on 24/7 carbon-free energy.

This approval not only solidifies Nevada’s role in the national clean energy transition but also sets a precedent for future partnerships between utilities and large energy consumers seeking sustainable, reliable power solutions.
