Nominations for the Ruggero Bertani European Geothermal Innovation Award came to an end last week, with applications currently being evaluated on grounds of originality, innovation, reliability, emission reductions, and improvements in energy output.

Organised jointly by the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) and Messe Offenburg, the award is presented annually to European entities that have made an outstanding contribution towards the field of geothermal energy in the form of innovative products, scientific research or project initiatives developed or released within the previous year. The competition welcomes projects, processes, products and initiatives from European companies, entities, or organisations across all value chain and geothermal applications, provided that they are located or have operations within Europe.

The eligibility criteria for participants includes either covering a field application of a latest innovation in 2024 or the development of an existing process or product to provide an innovative and sustainable approach, released within the year 2024.

Five shortlisted participants will be announced on 20 January and the final winners will be announced from 20-21 February during the GeoTHERM 2025 event in Offenburg, Germany.
