The Bureau of Land Management is offering opportunities for reliable energy development with a competitive geothermal lease sale on 27 October, 2026, across 40,000 acres in California.
Delivering on the government’s promise to expand American energy production, BLM is offering 19 parcels of public lands in Modoc, Sonoma, Lake, Mono, Inyo, and Imperial counties.
Parcels are available for viewing on the BLM National NEPA Register pages for each respective field office, which are linked on the BLM California Geothermal Energy website and EnergyNet.
The bidding will open at 8am Pacific Time on 27 October.
For each parcel leased, 50% of the bid will for to the state of California; 25% will go to the county where the lease is located; and 25% will go to the US Treasury. Geothermal leases are for an initial 10-year period, which allows the winning bidder to explore and develop potential geothermal resources. Leases may be extended if the lessee establishes production or proof of diligent exploration.
